My name is Yetunde Taiwo Rodriguez. I am a wife and at-home Mother of 3 wonderful children. I love all things related to home-making. Yes, home-making. It’s taken me years to admit that, because home-making is a lost art that is no longer valued or appreciated. I think a woman should be able to do whatever she wants to do, even if it is ‘just’ running a home.
Just a little background about myself… I lost my my mother at the age of nine. She was 32. I was raised by 2 wonderful aunts after her death. They taught me everything they knew, and for that I am eternally grateful. I developed my love of homemaking and homesteading when I started to realize just how little I knew. Now with 3 children and a home of my own, I fully can indulge in that love!
I have 2 reasons for starting this site. I realize that homemaking/homesteading is a lost and under-appreciated art. It saddens me that home-ec is no longer being taught in school. A whole generation of young people are being raised to be strictly consumers, not doers. We are all so used paying for goods and services and no longer know how to do/make anything anymore! My hope is that my readers will learn something new here. Secondly, (and selfishly hehehe) I want this site to serve as a catalog of things I know, things I’ve learned, and things I’d like to incorporate in to my life. So often I forget what I know, or see something I’d like to try, but forget about it in the flurry of activity known as life.
The books/products I promote on this site are things I love. I am not currently being paid to rate/review anything. That may change in the future. If it does, I will offer full disclosure.
Feel free to ask questions! I love sharing knowledge.
Happy Homemaking,
Yay! Will be following…. Homemaking, a favorite pastime of mine!

AManda,
thank you so much!
It’s so good to hear from you!
THanks for checking the site.
Hi, I’ve just discovered your blog and I love it! Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m getting inspired to create even more (I’m a writer but I love making/repurposing things, too).
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you find the site worthwhile and useful to you~
WOW! i had no idea that Home Economics was no longer taught in schools!!! truthfully, i did horribly in the class (i used to call it “Home Wreck”), which was required when i was in 7th and 8th grade for all girls (even back then, i thought it was messed up that boys were not required to take Home Ec., and that girls were not required to take shop class) . . . i am *still* probably one of the worst cooks on the planet, (unlike my Mom and Grandma, who were incredibly intuitive, instinctive, talented and creative cooks!) but in retrospect, i am glad and thankful that these creative/do-it-yourself/make-it-yourself skills were taught — scary to think of a whole nation of complacent consumers! . . . THANK YOU and BLESS YOU for putting this important knowledge out there! 🙂
why thank you Katherine! lol@ Home Wreck, that is too funny! I think Home EC and Woodshop should be a requirement for everyone, as part of some sort of ‘self-sufficiency’ program, but then there are companies that capitalize off our ignorance, and (insert sarcasm here) who are we to get in the way of their pursuit of profits.
Do you have Yoruba heritage? I am Anang and Igbo so I’ll be “progressive” lol and say how much I love your name. This looks like a great blog. I too agree that feminism is more than telling women to ‘get out of the home’, lol if a woman WANTS to be there then the feminist response should simply be to make sure she is respected and valued there.
Hi!
Yes I am of Yoruba heritage. Welcome, fellow Naija. Thank you for visiting my site, and I appreciate your comments!
Great site ! I really dug the handi-craft. A personal touch, your personal touch, can really impact a room. I’m gonna’ have to get a room AfroMarthed in 2012 !
Hi Seko,
Thanks for stopping by! What makes a room is the the owners personal touch. Everyone has style, even they think they don’t. Let me know when you’re ready to get AfroMartha’d lol!
You are so awesome! I love your mission and your story 🙂
We got so much in common, it’s crazy. But I’d be more the Germanmartha (and without the criminal background, hahaha!!). So very nice to meet you, glad you left a comment on my blog, it’s always nice to get to know the people who are interested in what I do but stay invisible because they don’t leave a comment or connect otherwise.
Now heading over to facebook and pinterest (see, I’m stalking you already)
Love,
Franziska
why thank you Franziska! I am happy you stopped by! I am heading over to stalk you now, haha!
